Great Northern Siberian Husky Club

CLUB INFORMATION

The GNSHC is recognised by the NZKC
as the breed club for the Siberian Husky
covering a zone of influence known as the portion of New Zealand
north of the 39th parallel of latitude. (roughly Rotorua)

Code of ethics

I will display good sportsmanship at all events involving the breed - show, race, obedience, public displays etc,
and extend courtesy to interested members of the public.
I will attempt to help Novice Exhibitors, Mushers and Breeders to the best of my ability when requested.

I will carefully evaluate conformation and pedigree of prospective Sire and Dam when considering breeding, keeping in mind the breed standard and its primary function of working in harness.

I will refuse a mating, if, in my opinion, it is not in the best interests of the breed.

I will explain to prospective Siberian Husky Buyers the disadvantages of the breed.

I will refuse to sell any puppies to Pet Shops, Dog Dealers or their agents, and I will include in all Stud Contracts, to be signed by the owner of the Bitch, that NO puppies resulting from the mating will be disposed of through said outlets.

I will provide followup advice and assistance, where requested, to all persons purchasing a puppy from me I will notify the Great Northern Siberian Husky Club of all matings within 10 days of occurrence and will notify the New Zealand Kennel Club of all ensuing litters.

I will encourage all interested persons, particularly new Siberian husky owners, to join the GNSHC of the Siberian Husky Club in the region they live.

I will accept responsibility for all puppies bred by me

I will always take back, or provide for any dog of my breeding which needs a new home until I find a suitable new home.

I will not allow my brood bitch(es) to bred more than twice in any successive breeding period of 12 months. In the unlikely event that a bitch is bred twice in 12 months then under no circumstances will allow my brood bitch(es) to have puppies for a period of 12 months after a second litter.

I will not breed from a bitch under the age of 18 months or use a dog at stud under the age of 12 months.

The Great Northern Siberian Husky Club recommends that all Siberian Huskies that are to be bred from be tested for hereditarydefects including glaucoma, PRA, cataracts and hip dysplasia.  If hereditary problems occur owners/breeders will be honest and open and ensure that they are not perpetuating these defects in the breed.
